Choate has been one of the nation’s leading law firms for over a century. We are enormously proud of Choate’s distinguished history, and are even more excited about our future. Our mission is to focus on a core group of specialized services that we provide to sophisticated clients on important matters across and, increasingly, outside the country. All of our 200 lawyers, and the professional management team and staff of 250 that supports them, are located in Boston. Our specialized practices, our single office and our single-minded focus (some say, obsession) on adding value to our clients and their businesses allow us to provide unique levels of service, efficiency and accountability. compensation
Your compensation will be competitive with that of other top law firms. Our 2007 summer associates were paid $3,100 per week (based on the current salary paid to our first year associates, $160,000).

As a summer associate you are part of the action from day one, because we take great pride in staffing our matters leanly. You will play an integral role on transaction and case teams. In recent years, summers have observed depositions and trials, traveled to drafting and negotiating sessions with opposing counsel, and taken part in strategy meetings with clients.

On your first day as a summer associate you will be paired with a senior mentor, a mid-level associate advisor and a first year buddy. With the help of these three, you will learn about Choate through their eyes and work with them to coordinate assignments.
training ground
During your summer at Choate you will attend various training and informational seminars to help you succeed. In addition, we offer you the opportunity to meet with a writing instructor to improve your legal writing skills.

Virtually all of our entry level attorneys began their careers as summers, so it is our intent to offer you a permanent position at the end of your summer with us. We are pleased to report that our acceptance rate is 94%, which far exceeds the national average for firms our size (NALP Statistics). Also, did you know that Choate was ranked as one of Boston’s Best Places to Work, for the second year in a row? Only three other law firms were named.
