Lawson LLP is a mid-sized insurance litigation firm that formed in 2008. Our idea was to create a firm around a group of lawyers who already knew and respected each other, and each other’s work. We wanted to create a dynamic team with a good balance of men and women, plus a wide range of experience. Lawson LLP launched with six partners and six associates, giving us the scope to handle complex cases and the cohesiveness to work together to answer our clients’ needs. Our areas of practice include insurance defence, motor vehicle claims, long-term disability claims, property claims, occupiers’ liability, product liability and social host liability.

When we launched Lawson LLP, one of our principal goals was to create an appealing place to work – not just for the partners and associates, but also articling students. We set out to do more to integrate articling students into our firm. We also determined that the tighter we were as a group, the greater the exposure and opportunity we could present to our students. They will always play a central role in the life of our firm.
Our articling students aren’t assigned rotations; they work closely with all the lawyers – including the partners. They aren’t tucked away in their offices doing research; they are given real responsibility and gain hands-on experience in all aspects of litigation. They draft documents, have carriage of their own files, and attend at court.
