O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP
From Law Outlines Wiki & Law Firms Wiki - Law-Wiki.com
O'Connor MacLeod Hanna's deep community roots span four decades of helping clients across Halton and Peel to achieve their business and personal goals.
The foundation of the firm was built upon the merger in 1991 of two Oakville firms, O'Connor Leitch Hays and MacLeod Knox Watts. Independently, each firm had grown to be the two largest law firms in Oakville with a history of more than 20 years. To keep pace with the changing needs of area residents and organizations, the two firms reached an agreement to come together as O'Connor MacLeod. With the merger, O'Connor MacLeod was able to complement conventional practice with considerable expertise in emerging areas of law.
In the year 2000, the partners of O'Connor MacLeod were pleased to welcome a new partner to the firm. Brian Hanna had established his practice in Oakville in 1975, but with the emerging specialization of law, Brian felt his clients would be best served through the expertise provided by a larger firm. The two firms joined together to become O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP.
Today the collective strength of O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP offers unique client benefits: the expertise of a large city based law firm delivered from a convenient location, with user-friendly overhead structures.
Consistent client value is a hallmark of O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP that began with our founding solicitors in 1970. It is the seed from which the firm has matured, and it is the principle that guides us through our fourth decade of service.

[edit] Student Info
O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP is a law firm that offers a broad range of legal services to our clients. We believe that the firm, located in the Town of Oakville, provides an excellent learning environment for articling students, with the opportunity to benefit from a wide range of experiences and close working relationships with the lawyers in the firm. We think that OMH is a great place to learn and work.
Set out below we have expanded upon the reasons as to why O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP, Halton's largest law firm, would provide you with a high quality articling experience.
Why should you article with O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP?
1. Legal Training
OMH is a mid-sized regional firm offering services to our clients in a broad range of areas. The result is that articling students at the firm experience all types of practice. The lawyers at the firm are well respected and experienced in their various areas of practice. Working closely with very capable counsel in a firm of this size provides an excellent opportunity for an articling student to develop his or her skills. Students benefit from working with lawyers who specialize in their respective practice areas.
2. Practical Experience
Unlike some larger firms, OMH provides very practical experience in the practice of law. You will do much more at this firm than sit in the library doing research memoranda. Students are regularly provided with the opportunity to have carriage of files under a supervising lawyer with direct client contact.
3. Location - Town of Oakville
The Town of Oakville is a dynamic, growing community with ample opportunity for business development. On the personal side, it also happens to be a wonderful place to live and work. Deciding to article in Oakville is a positive lifestyle choice. A number of the lawyers of OMH started their practices in Toronto, but made lifestyle choices which prompted their moves to OMH.
If you find yourself "turned-off" by the thought of long commutes and the crowded, downtown Toronto environment, Oakville may be the place for you.
4. Mentoring
The lawyers of OMH have a long-standing commitment to work closely with the articling students at the firm. We have a well-established open door policy for our students and each other. In addition, each articling student is matched with a mentor to ensure that the student gets as much support as necessary.
5. Rotation
We currently intend to hire (and presently have) two students. Each student works half of his or her articling term in litigation and related practice areas, and the other half of the term in real estate, corporate/commercial and related areas.
6. Hire-Back
Many of the lawyers at OMH began their relationship with the firm through our articling program. We believe that this is the best way to develop and expand our firm. Approximately half the lawyers at OMH are former articling students of the firm.
7. Firm Culture
For all of the reasons set out above, OMH is an excellent place to complete your articles. However, perhaps one of the greatest strengths of OMH is its firm culture.
We are committed to the well-being of each and every person who works at the firm and are determined to make the work environment an enjoyable place to be. There is a long tradition in this regard as is evidenced by the extremely low turnover of support staff and the number of long-time employees.
We work hard, but we don't forget to have some fun along the way. OMH has a very active and creative social committee. Social events at the firm have included everything from fine dining at our Christmas parties to croquet and bocci ball barbecues on the front lawn of our premises. We have done white water rafting on the Ottawa River together, a boat cruise on Lake Huron, the horse races at Mohawk Raceway, a night at Stage West, and numerous other events.
The lawyers and staff of OMH enjoy being together and this translates into a very positive work environment.
The deadline to apply for an articling student position for the 2009/2010 term is May 09, 2008. If you are interested in submitting an application, kindly send it to the attention of James McAskill.
We think that there are many good reasons for considering an articling position at O'Connor MacLeod Hanna LLP. Please feel free to contact anyone at the firm including our current articling students to discuss the articling experience.
Thank you for taking the time to visit our website.
