From Law Outlines Wiki & Law Firms Wiki - Law-Wiki.com
Templeman Menninga LLP has become one of the pre-eminent legal services firms in Central and Eastern Ontario. Our lawyers are regularly involved in some of the most complex and sophisticated legal transactions. The lawyers of Templeman Menninga LLP are recognized experts in their various specialty practice areas.
The firm as it appears today started with very modest roots, having formed as a result of a merger between two small firms in the City of Belleville in 1981. Many of the traditions of client service remain today. The firm focused its efforts on providing cost-effective and competent service for mainly individuals in the surrounding geographic area. Quickly the firm's dedication to providing quality legal results began to attract the interest of institutional clients and businesses who continued to demand the same type of cost effective, responsive and personalized service. The quality of the firm's legal work started to attract talented legal professionals who shared the firm's vision for providing top notch legal services and the delivery of effective legal results on a cost effective and efficient basis.
Early on the litigation lawyers of Templeman Menninga LLP earned a reputation for being strong advocates, particularly in the areas of municipal law and insurance defence. In addition, the firm gained an outstanding reputation for delivering specialized legal services in the area of corporate and commercial and management side labour and employment law throughout Central and Eastern Ontario. In the late 1990's, as a result of the continuing demand by clients for services throughout the region, the firm opened its Kingston office. Shortly after, the firm added an office in Whitby to service the demands of clients in the greater Toronto area.
Today, Templeman Menninga LLP is a well-regarded full-service law firm serving clients throughout Ontario. The clients of the firm include not only individuals, but some of Canada's most recognizable corporations, including municipalities throughout the Province and many of Canada's largest insurance companies. The legal services demanded by these clients have required top legal talent. Our lawyers come from a variety of backgrounds, from those who joined the firm as articling students to those who have worked in large Bay Street firms, completed clerkships at the Ontario Court of Appeal and from industry. The lawyers of Templeman Menninga LLP share a common vision of maintaining the firm's complete dedication to client service and cost-effective results while providing superior legal results.
Templeman Menninga LLP continues to grow in a strategic manner to meet the growing needs of our clients. The firm is widely respected for its depth, bench strength and ability to immediately respond to any complex legal issue faced by clients in Southeastern Ontario and throughout the province. Our lawyers are regularly involved in some of the most novel and high profile legal cases before the Courts and the most complex of business transactions requiring not just legal skills but proven business acumen.

[edit] Student Info
At Templeman Menninga LLP our philosophy is to train students to become future lawyers and partners in the firm. Unlike traditional articles at large full service law firms, the experience gained by students at Templeman Menninga LLP is unparalleled. Students of Templeman Menninga LLP are encouraged to spend time with our lawyers in court, in administrative proceedings and in business transactions in order to receive the widest range of practical experience as possible. Given the depth and specialized nature of the legal services provided by the firm, students will be regularly involved in complex and challenging proceedings and business deals. Our students are given considerable responsibility in their articling year. images/articling_students.jpg
Rather than being used as a resource tool or spending months in processes related to “due diligence” in commercial matters, our students are expected to play a significant role in drafting pleadings, Agreements of Purchase and Sale, Factums in support of injunctive and interlocutory relief and to play a meaningful role as “second chair” in administrative proceedings. Students from the firm will be exposed to many areas of the law including mediations, arbitrations, trials, motions and business and real estate transactions. While there is no formal rotation for students during their articling months, students are expected to gain some exposure in the following broad practice areas:
- Corporate/Commercial Law;
- Real Estate Law;
- Labour and Employment and Human Rights Law;
- Municipal Law;
- Insurance Defence;
- Wills, Estates Litigation and Planning;
- Administrative Law.
Students can also expect to learn about the business aspects of the legal services firm.
The firm seeks to attract the most highly qualified students in order to join its team. Particular emphasis is placed on the demonstrated ability of a student to excel in their law school studies while providing significant broad exposure in other work and life areas. Because the firm places considerable responsibilities on the students and has high expectations, it is the policy of the firm to compensate students at a level that is more comparative to what students earn in major metropolitan areas. The firm provides students with a salary during their first phase of their bar admission course and pays all fees associated with the Bar Admission course. Wherever possible, the firm seeks to hire its lawyers from the student ranks. Presently the firm entertains applications for articles in our Belleville and Kingston offices.
